MIDISpeak: Assembly Notes

Important Information

This kit contains some ESD-sensitive parts. Please take reasonable static-control precautions when assembling the kit.

PCB Layout

The location of each part is clearly marked on the circuit board.

Parts List

All components are mounted on the side of the board with the white legend. Components can be mounted in any order, but it is easier to mount the smallest components first.
Part Image* Notes
C1-C3None.
C4Polarity is marked on the capacitor. Match the lead marked "+" with the pad marked "+" on the circuit board.
C5 Part C5 is not required.
D1-D8Zener diode, marked "1N5230". Packaged separately inside the kit—do not confuse with D9-D17. Dark band on diode must match the white band on the circuit board legend.
D9-D17Diode, marked 4148. Do not confuse with D1-D8. Dark band on diode must match the white band on the circuit board legend.
D18White band on diode must match the white band on the circuit board legend.
IC1Mount socket on the circuit board first, then insert IC into socket. Notched end must match notch in the circuit board legend.
IC2Mount socket on the circuit board first, then insert IC into socket. End marked with dot must match notch in the circuit board legend.
IC3Voltage regulator, marked "L4931". Packaged separately inside the kit—do not confuse with T1-T8. Match the flat side of the IC to the flat part of the symbol on the circuit board.
R11/4 watt, 220Ω resistor, marked with the following color bands: red, red, brown, gold.
R2-R31/8 watt, 10kΩ resistor, marked with the following color bands: brown, black, orange, gold.
R5-R81/8 watt, 100kΩ resistor, marked with the following color bands: brown, black, yellow, gold.
RN1-RN210-pin resistor network. Pin 1 (marked with dot) must be inserted in the small box on the circuit board legend.
RN38-pin resistor network. Orientation of part does not matter.
SW1Numbers 1-6 on switch should match the numbers on the circuit board legend.
T1-T8Transistor, marked MPSA77. Do not confuse with IC3. Match the flat side of the transistor to the flat part of the symbol on the circuit board.
*Appearance of parts may vary.
