UMR2: MIDI Input and Output for Vintage Keyboard Synthesizers

The new UMR2 (Universal MIDI Retrofit) adds MIDI input/output functionality to non-velocity-sensitive keyboard synthesizers. Use your vintage keyboard as a sound module that responds to MIDI input or as a MIDI controller that generates MIDI output.

The UMR2 is 100% factory-assembled and supports a wide range of vintage keyboards. It supersedes previous HL MIDI retrofit products including the UMR, CS01-MIDI, VL-1-MIDI, and SKM kits. NTH Music Synthesizer Available Now at Kickstarter.com

The NTH is a fun-to-use, sonically-rich, hackable music synthesizer.  It features digital oscillators, an analog low-pass filter, an integrated step sequencer, MIDI I/O, and simple, intuitive controls.

New MSA MIDI Decoder

The new MSA MIDI decoder accepts MIDI input and can control a variety of devices in response to MIDI messages.

Use each output of the MSA-P & MSA-R as you would use an SPST switch.  Use the MSA-T to control a variety of DC loads including solenoids, motors, LEDs, incandescent bulbs, or power relays.

Features of the new design include:

  • Easier programming via optional “learn” method
  • LED indicator for each output circuit
  • A variety of output modes based on user suggestions
  • User-upgradable firmware

MSA MIDI Decoder Update

The MSA MIDI decoder has been redesigned.  The new version will ship in November, and will be available in the familiar -P (photorelay), -R (reed relay), and -T (NPN Darlington) output varieties.

The new design features several improvements, including:

  • LED indicator for each output circuit
  • Configure the unit via SysEx or via a new “learn” method
  • New output modes
  • User-upgradable firmware

The new MSA will ship either fully assembled or “mostly assembled”.  At most, the user will have to solder the output elements, LEDs, and terminal blocks.
